Exploring bird migration on Wangerooge

This year’s Akademie am Meer participants listened with fascination as Miriam Liedvogel talked about her research on migratory birds.

From 06 to 09 September 2024, the Akademie am Meer Teil III Biosphäre took place on Wangerooge, with students from grades 4 to 6 from various schools in Wilhelmshaven taking part. The academy is organised by Neues Gymnasium Wilhelmshaven. The topic: migratory birds – perfect for a cooperation with the Institute of Avian Research. In addition to Miriam Liedvogel, Sabrina Satzinger, science communicator for the kids4Kids - Bird Migration project, also represented the institute.

After introductory talks and workshops on bird migration, we interviewed the kids: What do they find so exciting about bird migration? Why do birds actually migrate south? What does bird migration have to do with genes? Together with the students, we recorded a wonderful podcast in which the topic “Fascination Migratory Birds” was given the kids’ own voice. Have a listen!

We are very pleased about the live broadcast of our Akademie podcast on Radio Jade on 26 October 2024.
