The fascination of migratory birds

Every autumn, the Migratory Bird Days in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park make bird migration along the Lower Saxony coast tangible. During the Migratory Bird Days, thousands of migratory birds from the north travel to the Wadden Sea to refuel before embarking on their long journey south.

Through lectures, excursions, guided tours and hands-on activities, visitors learn why the Wadden Sea is an important stopover site for millions of migratory birds.

The Institute of Avian Research is closely connected to these topics through its research on bird migration, orientation and behaviour. Current events, guided tours and programme items related to the institute or the Common Tern Information Centre can be found in the official Migratory Bird Days programme.
