Ornithological diary

In keeping of Gätkes tradition, the staff of the Island station meets each morning at 8:00 to report on the bird species observed on the island the previous day. These data are entered in a specially developed computer programme and the results are published in the Ornithologischen Jahresberichte Helgoland as well as in the book „Die Vogelwelt der Insel Helgoland“. The recordings also allow investigation of the changes in the Helgoland bird community over time and are used in various projects.
