Laboratory facilities
At the institute of avian research, we have a fully equipped research laboratory and microscopy facility across three independently operated yet interconnected laboratories. This setup allows for a wide range of molecular and physiological analyses.
Our expertise includes the purification of nucleic acids from diverse biological matrices and in our facility, we have the full capability for conducting PCR and qPCR-based analyses. These techniques enable us to measure parasitaemia, perform genotyping, and estimate telomere length, among others. Additionally, we have the basic equipment for conducting ELISAs and colorimetric assays to measure immunological and oxidative stress parameters.
For mitochondrial and cellular metabolism research, we are equipped with two high-resolution respirometers (Oroboros Oxygraph-2k), allowing for in-depth examinations of mitochondrial physiology in tissue preparations and intact cells. Furthermore, our EchoMRI Quantitative Magnetic Resonance Scanner enables precise, non-invasive body composition measurements in live animals, assessing whole-body fat, lean mass, free water, and total water content.
These comprehensive laboratory resources support a broad spectrum of research applications, enhancing our ability to explore complex molecular and physiological processes.
