Climate Change and migratory birds

Wintering in English gardens

World Migratory Bird Day takes place on the second Saturday in May and October each year.

On the occasion of this international day celebrating migratory birds, Miriam Liedvogel reminds listeners in conversation with Deutschlandfunk Kultur how profoundly these animals are affected by climate change. Many migratory birds are becoming more sedentary, shortening their routes or changing them. Among them is the blackcap, which apparently likes spending the winter in Great Britain and makes use of the fact that the British are passionate about feeding birds.
