My general research interest is behavioural and evolutionary ecology, with a particular focus on the physiological mechanisms underlying life-history variation within species. Currently, I am investigating the effects of inbreeding on life-history traits, as well as the causes and consequences of among- and within-individual variation in mitochondrial performance. Additionally, I am conducting experimental research on the transfer of mercury pollution from parents to offspring in a captive population of Japanese quail. In collaboration with the University of Siena (Italy), I am assessing the ecotoxicological status of great tit populations from areas with varying levels of anthropogenic impact, and working with researchers from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) I explore sexual selection and sexual conflict in different wild passerines.
