My research addresses how genomic and regulatory mechanisms contribute to complex behavior. I use migratory behavior in the Eurasian blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) as a model to study how genetic and regulatory variation interact to generate behavioral diversity, particularly differences in migratory state and migratory orientation.
Beyond behavioral mechanisms, I am broadly interested in evolutionary processes speciation and hybridisation. I am especially drawn to systems in which behavioral variation contributes to reproductive isolation and divergence, and where hybrid zones provide opportunities to link genomic and regulatory variation to evolutionary outcomes.
