I’m an evolutionary biologist with a background in ornithology and genetics. I am mostly interested genome evolution, repetitive DNA, and population genetics. The majority of my work has been on birds, which I have been fascinated with since my childhood.
My projects all somehow relate to questions in genomics and genetics. For example, currently I am investigating the genetic basis of melanism of island-dwelling blackcaps, the relatedness of common terns, or the rate of new mutations in Japanese quails. My work as a bioinformatician at the IfV entails implementing and maintaining data management solutions, and bioinformatic support for projects that are carried out at the HPC cluster of the Oldenburg University.
