Teaching
I currently supervise one PhD student (MSc. M. Beccardi) at the Institute of Avian Research on a project on variation in individual quality in Japanese quail, and co-supervise one PhD student (Msc. R. Burke, with Dr. B. Tschirren), who is based at the University of Exeter, on a project on paternal effects in Japanese quail.
In the past I have successfully co-supervised three PhD students:
Dr. H. Zhang, at the Institute of Avian Research, Wilhelmshaven, Germany (with Prof. P.H. Becker and Prof. S. Bouwhuis)
Dr. S.M. Amininasab, at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands (with Prof. J. Komdeur and Dr. P. Korsten)
Dr. N. Kürten, at the Institute of Avian Research, Wilhelmshaven, Germany (with Prof. S. Bouwhuis and Dr. H. Schmaljohann)
Throughout my career I have successfully supervised 11 MSc students, from various universities:
Dr. E. Jongepier (University of Groningen)
Dr. A.M.F. Harts (University of Groningen)

MSc. A. Kersten (University of Bremen)
MSc. N. Becker (University of Oldenburg)
MSc. K. Piening (University of Oldenburg)
Since 2022 I teach an annual 2-week practical course on Japanese quail behaviour at the University of Oldenburg. In the past I have:
Co-supervised a 2-week field-course on common tern life-history biology at the University of Oldenburg.
Supervised three BSc students in writing their BSc theses at the University of Groningen.
Supervised eighteen BSc students in eight-week field-based research projects at the University of Groningen.
Organised the practical part of a BSc course on behaviour and evolution, four times at the University of Groningen.
Assisted in the practical part of a BSc course on ecology, three times at the University of Groningen.
Been employed as a student teaching assistant, to assist in four different practical BSc courses (Behaviour and Evolution 2x, Vertebrate Zoology 2x, Ethology Research1x, Ecology 1x) at the University of Groningen.
