Population size and migratory behaviour of cliff-breeding birds

Helgoland provides the only suitable breeding habitat in Germany for cliff-breeding birds. The number of breeding pairs is estimated on an annual basis and chicks are ringed in order to investigate migratory behaviour. Ring recovery data have shown that the causes of death of cliff-breeding birds have changed over time.
